According to the latest research, obesity is now measured beyond body mass index. The Canadian Medical Association Journal, which published this guide, provides information on a holistic approach to obesity. Currently, obese people suffer more from psychological problems that have arisen against the background of complexes about overweight than from the very reasons that led to this condition. Most often, obese people are characterized by a lack of willpower and desire to improve their body, unwillingness to change their lifestyle.

One of the authors of this guide, Ximena Ramos-Salas, director of research and policy at Obesity Canada, concluded that most of the treatment problems stem from doctors' bias towards patients. The wrong psychological approach to the problem and the lack of communication skills among medical workers when communicating with patients leads to an unwillingness to overcome the complexities of the latter in relation to their reflection in the mirror.

Now, according to new guidelines, doctors need to focus on the relationship between excess weight and its impact on health in general. How will obesity affect the organs and systems in the future, what will happen to the patient's body in 10-20 years? What concomitant diseases can develop if you are overweight? These and similar questions should be answered by doctors specializing in obesity. Fighting excess weight not only solves cosmetic defects, but also helps to get rid of the development of severe chronic diseases in the future.
