The American Heart Association recommends a daily intake of five servings of fruits and vegetables, of which 2 are fruits and 3 are vegetables. This formula can reduce the risk of cardiovascular, tumor, and many other chronic diseases.

The study, which involved almost 2 million people, found:

- Eating about 5 servings of vegetables and fruits per day significantly reduced the risk of many diseases, compared to smaller portions of these healthy foods;

- Not all vegetables and fruits have useful properties. For example peas, corn, fruit juices, potatoes, such products are not able to affect the improvement of health.

- Vegetables and fruits such as spinach, lettuce, cabbage, citrus fruits, berries, and carrots are rich in many vitamins, their usefulness was studied in the study.

"This research provides strong evidence for the lifelong benefits of eating fruits and vegetables and suggests a goal amount to consume daily for ideal health. Fruits and vegetables are naturally packaged sources of nutrients that can be included in most meals and snacks, and they are essential for keeping our hearts and bodies healthy," said Ann Thorndike, chair of the American Heart Association's nutrition committee.
