Japanese scientists have created two genetically modified viruses capable of attacking and killing malignant cells.

So far, there’s a lot of literature on the use of adenoviruses as a way to combat cancer cells. Adenovirus is able to infect cells of any kind, actively reproduce within malignant cells and kill them.

We can say that scientists are working daily to create even more effective viruses that can target cancer cells without affecting the healthy ones. A team of scientists led by molecular oncologist Fumihiro Higashino (Fumihiro Higashino) created two new genetically modified adenovirus that specifically target malignant cells.

The adenovirus gene has been inserted with fragments of two human genes containing an element that prevents viral particles from reproducing in healthy cells. As a result, viruses can only destroy cancer cells.

The study showed that both new viruses rapidly kill tumor cells without affecting healthy cells. Scientists injected the virus into human cancer cells, which were artificially grown in mice, and noted that malignant neoplasms had been significantly reduced in size.
