India is a sugar-producing country and one of the largest consumers of sweeteners in the world. Now the Indian sugar factory Association (ISMA) wants to understand the myths about the effects of sugar on the body. The Association's website contains various examples and articles about sugar consumption not harmful to health. The campaign promotes the use of artificial sweeteners. However, the world Health Organization considers the use of sugar, sweeteners used in food, beverages and baby food to be dangerous and not entirely useful.
So ISMA suggests another way to consume excess sugar is to use it as fuel, turning it into ethanol. The Indian sugar producers Association predicts that ethanol production will increase from 1.9 billion liters this year to 3 billion liters in 2021.
Thus, with this approach, the excess sugar will go to its equally important use. And the amount of "free sugars" will decrease.
