A coronavirus strain has been confirmed in a domestic cat - this is the first recorded case of the Covid-19 pathogen in a pet. However, this fact does not at all indicate that cats are carriers of infection for humans.

Presumably, the animal was infected by the owner. At the moment, this case is one of a kind, so health care asks the population not to worry. Perhaps the animal was infected from the owner by contact by stroking the cat. And already through the wool, viral particles entered the respiratory tract of the pet.

Frequent hand washing, limiting contact with animals in order to maintain health and reduce the likelihood of infection from a pet was recommended by Daniela Dos Santos, President of the British Veterinary Association.

Despite the fact that this case is one of a kind and has not been studied by experts in the field of veterinary medicine for the danger to humans, it is still necessary to refrain from direct contact with pets. The population is advised to observe hygienic precautions and be responsible for the quarantine measures taken.
