The study was conducted by researchers at four pediatric diabetic centers in the United States and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. According to the conducted randomized, four-month trial, 101 children from 6 to 13 years old with type 1 diabetes mellitus were involved.

The children were divided into three groups: the first used an artificial pancreas system, the second - a standard device for continuous monitoring, and the third - an insulin pump.

The new system monitors and regulates blood glucose levels using a computer to coordinate glucose readings with an insulin pump. As a result, glucose maintenance improved 7% during the day and 26% at night.

Control and the ability to regulate glucose levels, especially at night, will give a chance for a more or less fulfilling life for patients with this ailment. According to Dr. Paul Wadwa, this system is aimed at alleviating the concerns of parents of sick children related to glucose control, proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle for children, and also allows children to forget about their illness.
