South Korean researchers at KAIST (University of Daejeon), through experiments with certain types of proteins, have found a way to create a drug that can prolong life.
In the course of the scientific study, specialists managed to influence the activity of the gene (increase and decrease), which, in turn, is responsible for transmitting information to cells about the production of the VRK-1 protein, the main functional responsibility of which is the activation of the AMPK protein (activated protein kinase), which is responsible for "Monitoring" of the energy levels of cells.
The result of this study turned out to be overwhelming: an increase or decrease in the activity of the above-mentioned gene contributed to an extension or reduction of the worm's life (under normal conditions, it lives only two to three weeks). According to one of the authors of the work, Seung-Jae, this study opens up great prospects for mankind, giving a unique opportunity to extend life on Earth!
