Intermittent fasting is a popular dietary plan that means limiting your calorie intake, such as alternating between daily and periodic fasting. Many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have studied its benefits in CVD prevention.

\The five review authors conducted a search on December 12, 2019, in the CENTRAL, MEDLINE, and Embase databases. Systematic reviews were also considered for additional research. No language restrictions were applied.

We compared eating at any time without a specific caloric restriction with continuous restriction of the consumption of the same calories. Participants were required to be over the age of 18 and include individuals with and without cardiometabolic risk factors.

Intermittent fasting has been observed to outperform uncontrolled food intake in weight loss. However, there was no significant clinical difference between the two types of food intake in reducing the risk of CVD. Further research is needed to understand the safety and analysis of the risk-benefit ratio of PG in specific patient groups (for example, patients with diabetes or eating disorders), as well as the impact on long-term outcomes, such as all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction.
