Diagnosing patients for the presence or absence of coronavirus infection is a very important procedure, as it helps healthcare to monitor the dynamics of morbidity. What tests are used today? Classic nasal and pharyngeal swab, tested in vitro for 24 hours.

Also, at the moment, 2 new diagnostic methods are presented, purchased by the UK government in large quantities. The techniques involve the use of conventional nasal tampons and portable analyzers. In this case, there is no need to send the taken materials to the laboratory, and the result will be received immediately within 90 minutes.

Why is testing necessary? In order to ensure the safety of the country's population, diagnostic measures play an important role not only for medical workers, but also for people from other fields of activity, including those who are asymptomatic.

How reliable it is? The result can be influenced by the wrong sampling technique, the stage of the disease, or technical failures in laboratories. University of Birmingham researcher Andrew Beggs argues that the Oxford Nanopore rapid test is no less accurate than the laboratory one. And the developer of the second rapid test, Professor Chris Tumazu from DNANudge, said the results were reliable in 98% of cases.

According to scientists, the use of non-invasive, so inexpensive and at the same time reliable rapid tests will provide invaluable service in the fight against coronavirus infection.
