Israeli scientists have discovered a response of neuronal stem cells to blood substances in the hippocampus. It has been observed that stem cells can cause vascular wall to capture and randomly transport substances from the blood.
As it is known, there are two zones in the brain in which the precursors of nerve cells are contained, the olfactory bulb and the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus.
Several variants of the action of blood on stem cells can be considered. It is possible to act directly, reaching the vessels, or another path, when blood through the vessel wall cells activates the signaling substance production that have an effect on brain tissue.
Tamar Licht, together with scientists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, using a line of genetically modified mice, discovered stem cells with a body located in the cell layer “crown” and the process with small branches in another layer. After studying the slices on an electron microscope, scientists discovered that these small branches are located around the blood vessels.
